Lime supports a healthy immune function because it is a powerful antioxidant. It increases positive moods and gives a refreshing feeling that promotes well-being and emotional balance. It can be used as a variety of cleansers – internally, aromatically, and topically. It’s intense, citrus smell repels seasonal bugs.
Cold expressed from the peel, Lime affects the Digestive, Immune, and Respiratory Systems. When treating high body temperatures, infections, sore throat, cold symptoms, etc., Lime was often used in place of lemon. Lime blends well with Lavender, Citronella, Rosemary, Clary Sage, and other Citrus oils. It enhances their properties and creates harmony and synergy between the oils.
When diffused or inhaled directly, Lime’s aroma is stimulating and refreshing. Some sources claim it can tighten the muscles around the eyes, but that hasn’t been verified. It does, however, help to overcome feelings of depression, listlessness, and exhaustion. It can be applied topically to the area of concern, or to reflex points. Due to its ability to cause photosensitivity, avoid direct sunlight 12 hours after using topically to reduce the possibility of extreme skin sensitization. Lime can also be used to flavor cooking, taken in a capsule, placing 1-2 drops under the tongue, or diluting in a beverage.
