Oregano Essential Oil

Oregano Essential Oil 225x300

Oregano has significant historical recognition as the father of medicine, Hippocrates, used it as a cleansing agent in addition to digestive and respiratory support.  Steam distilled, Oregano is an excellent source of powerful antioxidants – phenolic acids and flavonoids.  This oil affects the Muscles and Bones, Immune and Respiratory Systems, and helps to cleanse the body.

High in antioxidant activity, Oregano contains phenolic acids and flavonoids. For aromatic, topical, or dietary use (dilute when using topically).  When blended with basil, lemongrass, rosemary, geranium, fennel, or thyme, this oil enhances their properties and gives harmony between the oils.  The French have used Oregano to treat mental disease, chronic rheumatism and bronchitis, asthma, and pulmonary tuberculosis.

When taken orally, combine one drop of Oregano in 1 tsp honey, 4 oz of beverage, taken in capsules, 1-2 drops under the tongue, or add to food as a flavoring.  The herbaceous and sharp aroma can be diffused or inhaled directly to provide support to digestive or respiratory issues in addition to strengthening a sense of security.  Be cautious when applying topically because it can cause skin irritation to affected areas or reflex points.  Dilute Oregano with one drop oil to three drops of Fractionated Coconut Oil before applying.

Oregano Essential Oil — 8 Comments

  1. My 13 yr old has been battling a wart on his nailbed for the past 3 years. It has been burned repeatedly with acid only to come back a few months later. The mds recommend to keep this up until finally, hopefully, it won’t come back. After going through the pain of repeating this process over and over we decided to just let it be. My mom mixed him up a “special oil” to try (diluted oregano). Since it wasn’t painful, my son was sure that it wouldn’t work. Not only is it gone, it hasn’t returned on over 3 months. My son now believes that the oils can cure everything! Each bump and scrape or runny nose, he is coming to look for an oil. we are so pleased with doterra.

  2. Wow! Oregano works great on warts. My husband had a couple on his fingers that nothing would touch. After a couple of weeks with oregano oil and a toothpick it was gone!

  3. I LOVE oregano! My husband has had a hard time with rough, calloused feet, and while working construction all day, he developed athlete’s foot. I tried out oregano diluted with coconut oil and wala! After a week of use once a day- his feet were as smooth as my baby’s behind! He loved it and, honestly, he was quite fond of the foot rub too :) I love Doterra!

  4. My 3-year-old daughter was diagnosed with MRSA about 18 months ago. It started as one boil in the middle of her back. We took her to our pediatrician, who lanced it and had it cultured. When it came back positive for MRSA, she explained that MRSA is very prevalent in the community, and other than taking the usual precautions (regular hand washing, washing clothing in hot water, cleaning, etc…) there was little we could do to prevent it from returning or spreading. How frustrating! After months and months of recurring infections, and two other family members becoming infected, I had become completely fed up!
I decided to become a doTERRA IPC after weeks of researching homeopathic treatments for MRSA. I did extensive research on the use of essential oils in the treatment and prevention of MRSA. I came across many “recipes” for using the oils.
About two months ago, I created a blend of Oregano, Frankinscence and OnGuard, diluted with Fractionated Coconut Oil. I applied this blend to the bottoms of the feet of every member of our household daily for two weeks. Now I apply it every couple of days (or whenever I think to do it). No one in the family has had a MRSA infection since we started using these oils. I am cautiously optimistic (but thrilled) that I seem to have found a prevention. What a relief to find something that actually works when “Modern Medicine” cant!

    • Would you be willing to share the amount of each oil you used to make the blend? My husband fought the MRSA infection which got into the bone of his hand from a locust thorn. After 15 surgeries of scraping and removing bone from his hand the only thing to do was to amputate. He has had a couple of scares with an infection in his big toe but after a heavy dose of antibiotics it seems to go away. But I am sure it is in his system just waiting to find a weak spot.
Your blend may be something we have been praying for. I am new to DoTerra Oils and have been very impressed so far.
      Thank you Sarah

  5. Hey everyone!!! Well I’ve been using DoTerra Essential Oils for about a year now and I (we) my family loves it. It does alot for us. I’ve used oregano for fungus. Peppermint for pain, stomach ache, headaches & fever. Using lavender as a deodorant, it also helps calm my children, & helps me with sleep. I’ve also used breath for asthma, congestions it really helps alot. Lemon has been used for coughs also. On guard my all time favorite, I’ve used it as a mouth rinse or for cold sores. Also, it’s good for brushing your teeth. I also dilute it with coconut
Oil to rub under my kids feet Just so that they don’t get sick when another household member is sick. My kids love DoTerra Essential oils. They always ask for DoTerra oils instead of OTC medicine. So people out there that hasn’t tried DoTerra Essential oils should give it a try.

  6. I have genetic acne, and was on a hunt for all natural acne remedies. Proactiv was fine, but I didn’t want to use chemicals this time. Somewhere in all my searches I saw oregano was supposed to help. So without reading any warnings, I slathered the oregano oil alllll over my face. A mistake I don’t regret…discovered an all natural chemical peel. Will definitey dilute in the future, but will use for this purpose again.
